DAUB: As always, made in Canada 🇨🇦

Since DAUB was established as a way to explore colour + pattern in 2010, visionary and founder, Lexi Soukoreff has always been committed to designing and producing in Canada. DAUB works with local seamstresses, home sewers and factories in Vancouver, BC to produce our line of women's clothing.

Shopping Canadian: Understanding What It Really Means

Since its founding in 2010, DAUB has been committed to designing and producing clothing in Canada. By producing our goods locally, we ensure our women’s clothing line is ethically made and sustainable.

As we celebrate 15 years this October, we are grateful for our supportive clients across Canada and the U.S. who share our values and understand the quality, pricing, and commitment behind Canadian-made clothing. Despite evolving market challenges, we have remained true to our mission: creating comfortable, sustainable clothing that makes you feel confident every day.

What Does “Feeling Confident in Your Every Day” Mean?

It means you're going about your life, not worrying about discomfort - no digging in, overheating, sliding down, tightness, or irritations. You're not thinking about your clothing as you go about your day - unless it's to thank yourself for choosing such a comfortable garment!

Our fabrics are designed with breathability, and softness in mind, and our clients often describe it as 'feeling like wearing a cloud'. Our designs are also seasonless and ageless, meaning they don’t go out of style and can be worn for years at any stage of life. We're inspired to make you look pull together and ready for whatever comes your way.

Our Commitment to Sustainable Fabrics

We carefully select OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified fabrics, ensuring they are free of harmful chemicals. Our basics line primarily features bamboo cotton fleece, French terry, and modal jersey—each known for their softness and durability.

Made in Canada vs. Canadian Company: What’s the Difference?

With the growing support for shopping Canadian, it’s important to clarify these terms:

  • Made in Canada: At least 51% of production costs and the last major transformation of the product occur in Canada.

  • Product of Canada: At least 98% of production costs are Canadian.

Manufacturing in Canada involves higher costs due to workplace safety standards, fair wages, and benefits such as CPP, EI, and WCB. These costs contribute directly to the Canadian economy.

In contrast, a Canadian company may be headquartered here and employ Canadians but manufacture products overseas. While this isn’t necessarily negative, consumers should consider factors like fair wages, sustainable materials, and responsible environmental practices when choosing brands.

Where DAUB Stands

DAUB has always manufactured its cut-and-sew garments in Vancouver, BC. Our fabrics are sourced from a Canadian supplier who partners with offshore mills following OEKO-TEX Standard practices. While Canadian mills exist, their minimum order quantities often exceed what we can use each season. We also previously sourced ribbed fabric from California but have had to adjust due to increased costs and tariffs.

The only item we don’t manufacture in Canada is our cotton grippy socks, as we have yet to find a Canadian supplier who produces them with grips. However, we hand-dye them in our Vancouver studio to maintain our commitment to quality and sustainability.

Why Shopping Canadian Matters

Choosing Canadian-made products supports local businesses, ensures ethical manufacturing, and contributes to a stronger economy. At DAUB, we are proud to be part of this movement and appreciate your support in keeping sustainable, locally-made fashion alive.

How you can make a difference:

Canadians are incredibly proud and we've seen this more than ever in the last few weeks as we rally behind Canadian brands and purchase close to home. We can make a difference based on where we spend our dollars and influence the success of our economy.
