Our Black Friday Looks a Little Different

Our Black Friday Looks a Little Different

As a small business, we have to approach this holiday shopping period differently than our larger competitors.

The most anticipated shopping weekend is just around the corner: Black Friday and Cyber Monday, or BFCM if you've heard of it :) It's hard to miss with all the deals, starting earlier and earlier each year. Businesses alike, offer discounts of all sizes, to draw in shoppers in order to make sales before the holiday.

"Black Friday" as a name was typically when retailers went from "red" to "black" in regards to cashflow. Retail is a costly game and most of the year, you're running a debt in order to stock the store in hopes your customer will come purchase what you've brought in. So, because of the forthcoming holiday season, this is when people shop enough to tip the business into a positive cashflow.

We choose to approach the holiday differently. We're a small business, manufacturing in Canada with an entirely local team. We simply cannot compete with the deep discounts offered by other brands.

The reason behind our approach lies in the choices we’ve made as a company. Unlike large corporations that produce overseas in massive volumes, we choose to manufacture locally, right here in Canada. This decision reflects our values as a sustainable, locally-focused brand, offering one of a kind products like our hand-dyed pieces and exceptional-quality textiles. Our choice in fabrics is a key point of our brand - ultra soft but also OEKO-TEK Standard Certified, which means, from fibre to fabric, the production is fair and environmentally sound.

While our approach ensures quality and attention to detail, it also comes with higher production costs—anywhere from 2 to 10 times more than overseas production—As a smaller company, we're not receiving volume discounts on fabric, cut + sew or shipping.

Beyond our immediate team, we also collaborate with local vendors, including pattern makers, specialized sewers, and sample manufacturers. Supporting these jobs helps sustain our local economy and ensures ethical practices every step of the way.

Thank you for valuing these differences and choosing products that support a more conscious and responsible way of consuming.

Our Offers

We’ve decided to take a slightly different approach to this Black Friday and use it to offer you special pricing on select products. We do this more as a thank you for your support, rather than a way to maximize sales. We're also at shows during this time and choose to be fair to those shopping in person and spending the time coming to see us.

We’ve built out our Gratitude List for you to save up to 40% off on some of our past styles and those timeless basics and essentials you love. This is your chance to get the piece you missed or to try one you may like now :)

Our BFCM runs Friday, November 29 to Monday, December 2. We've planned these to ship from Vancouver and will be shipping via UPS. If you need any help, please reach out to us at customerservice@daubanddesign.com.

Thank you for supporting small businesses like ours!

Your choice makes an impact that goes far beyond the season.
