Must-try Pilates Classes

Must-try Pilates Classes

Our favourite parts of the week are those rare moments where we have the opportunity to prioritize our physical and mental wellbeing! Before the pandemic, you could often find us at the gym, on the mat, or doing a home workout whenever we had a spare second, but since we were plunged into lockdown and swept back into reopening, working out has become an uncertain and loaded activity.

There’s been an idea floating around on the internet that, since being in lockdown and quarantine, those of us non-essential workers have had endless time to perfect our bodies and that’s simply not true. For some, working out is an emotionally-charged activity as it can cause us to contemplate self-image, and additional stress (whether it’s general life stress or the idea of the world falling apart) can make it difficult to keep up with constant physical activity! The state of the world is enough to sabotage anyone’s efforts to get sweaty, but that’s why we’re thrilled that classes are reopening in gyms across the country.

We don’t know about you, but we find it incredibly energizing and motivating to work out with others, and we’re lucky to live where there are some gorgeous facilities run by wonderful instructors who make us feel our best! Pilates studios are some of our favourite places to be (asides from cafes and massage studios… you know, the other heavenly places we go to) and a beautiful one that’s now running classes is Core Community! Core Community is a new, stunningly outfitted, addition to Vancouver’s Pilates community, and one that we’re so excited to share with you!

Located in Kits, Core Community invites people to find meaningful connections to their body and their community through a modern, energized, and inclusive approach. In the fall, Core Community is launching its Core Mama program for pre and post natal Pilates - yes! Right now, you can practice safe sweat at Core Community with thoughtful COVID-19 precautions in place, including deep cleaning between classes, mandatory masks in common areas, temperature checks, mandatory grip socks, a touchless bathroom, and reformer stations that are all six feet apart.

For group classes, Core Community is currently offering three different classes on their  schedule - Core Foundations, which is your beginner friendly class learning the foundations of pilates, will be challenging and accessible while also preparing you for all other classes. If you are familiar with pilates, then the studio suggests the class Core Control, which is a level up from foundations and would be a good challenge. Finally Core Cardio offers a quicker pace to get the heart rate up and the class uses jump boards for a low impact but high intensity workout. Group classes are set up for a maximum of 6 students in class, while the studio also offers private sessions, duets and trios for anyone who's looking for more individual attention or to practice in a smaller group. Not big on the idea of in-person group exercising just yet? That’s totally okay! Core Community also offers a Digital Studio, where you can access a 30-day free trial to give it a go from home.
