Stain Removal Guide

Keeping your garments looking fresh and clean is easier than you think with the right tools and techniques. Let’s walk through some simple, fabric-friendly tips to tackle common stains while keeping your garments soft and cozy.

This guide is designed to help you remove stains. We cannot promise it will work each and every time but it's here to offer you guidance or a starting place. We suggest testing a small patch of clothing first that is in a more inconspicuous spot if you are worried.

Tools to Keep Handy

  • Baking Soda
  • White Vinegar
  • Dish Soap
  • Rubbing Alcohol (70%-99%)
  • Toothbrush (for gentle scrubbing)
  • Old Towels or Microfiber Cloths

General Rules for Modal and Fleece

  1. Avoid Hot Water: Hot water can shrink or damage delicate fabrics. Stick to cold or lukewarm water.
  2. Skip Aggressive Scrubbing: Rough handling can cause the fibres to break and lead to pilling. Be gentle!
  3. Use Gentle Detergents: Opt for mild, non-bleach detergents to protect the fibres.
  4. Air Dry Always: Avoid dryers—air drying helps maintain texture and shape. Using heat in a dryer can also set stains, which is exactly what we want to avoid!

Always try to remove the stain as soon as possible! The longer it sits, the more challenging it may become to remove.

First off, it's important to identify the category of stain you are working with.

Common types would include:

Protein-based: blood, sweat and food items such as dairy or eggs.
Oil-based: grease, make-up, oil or food items such as salad dressing.
Dye-stains: ink, grass, coloured beverages, juicy vegetables
Combination or Unknown stains

Try your best to identify the stain and follow these basic steps for effective removal.

Stain-Specific Tips

Oil/Grease Stains

  • Modal: Sprinkle baking soda, cornstarch or baby powder on the stain to absorb oil. Let sit for 15 minutes, then gently rub in a drop of dish soap. Rinse with cold water.
  • Fleece: Dab dish soap on the stain and rinse under cold running water. Avoid soaking, as fleece can trap water and become heavy.

Coffee/Tea Stains

  • Modal: Soak in lukewarm water with a small amount of dish soap. Rinse thoroughly and air dry.
  • Fleece: Dab with a solution of 1 tablespoon vinegar to 1 cup water using a soft cloth. Do not wring.

Blood Stains

  • Modal: Rinse in cold water and gently rub with a paste of baking soda and water. Avoid hot water, which sets protein stains.
  • Fleece: Dab with hydrogen peroxide (test a small area first). Rinse thoroughly with cold water.

Sweat/Deodorant Stains

  • Modal: Treat with a diluted vinegar solution (1 part vinegar to 3 parts water). Rinse and wash gently.
  • Fleece: Use a baking soda paste. Rub lightly and rinse with cold water.

Ink Stains

  • Modal: Dab the stain with rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer. Place a cloth underneath to catch the ink transfer. Repeat until the stain lifts.
  • Fleece: Blot with rubbing alcohol or diluted dish soap. Be careful not to saturate the fabric, as fleece retains moisture.

Fabric-Specific Care

Modal

  • Soft and lightweight, so avoid wringing or heavy agitation.
  • Dry flat to prevent stretching and maintain its shape.

Fleece

  • Avoid fabric softeners—they can reduce the plush feel.
  • Lightly brush with a fabric brush after washing to restore texture.

With these tips, you can keep your modal and fleece garments looking and feeling like new. Remember, a little extra care goes a long way!
