How to Rebuild an Intentional Wardrobe by Choosing Better Basics (Part 2)

How to Build an Intentional Wardrobe: Starting With the Pieces That Matter Most

In Part 1, we explored why a full closet doesn’t always feel supportive. In this guide, we’ll focus on the how.

Building an intentional wardrobe doesn’t happen all at once. It starts with the pieces you rely on most and layers outward from there.

Start With the Bottom Half

When building an intentional wardrobe, we always recommend starting with bottoms.

Comfortable, well-fitting bottoms create a stable foundation and allow the rest of your wardrobe to shine. Whether it’s a statement layer you picked up while travelling or a favourite knit you’ve owned for years, the right bottoms support everything else you wear.

Look for silhouettes that feel good sitting, walking, and moving through your day. If you don’t feel comfortable, you won’t reach for them.

Keep Things Simple

Your Base Layer Should Feel the Best

The pieces worn closest to your body matter most. We're not talking about base layers for skiing or winter sports here. We're talking about the one that lays directly next to your skin through out your day.

Your base layer sets the tone for your entire day. If it’s scratchy, tight, or digging in, everything worn on top will feel off. This layer should feel soft, breathable, and supportive without asking anything of you.

We often start with short sleeves or sleeveless styles, depending on activity level and daily temperature. These pieces form the foundation of an intentional wardrobe and transition easily across seasons.

The Cozy Layer

This is the layer most of us live in.

Cozy layers are designed to be worn over tanks and tees, but many work just as well on their own. These pieces should feel soft against the skin and flexible enough to move with you throughout the day.

Think warmth without bulk. Comfort without restriction.

The Longsleeve Layer

If you prefer starting with a longsleeve as your base, that works beautifully too.

Longsleeves offer coverage without heaviness and layer easily with vests, open jackets, or worn on their own. Choose styles that drape well and don’t cling. These are the pieces that quietly earn their place in your weekly rotation.

How DAUB Fits Into an Intentional Wardrobe

In this guide, we’ve intentionally mixed pieces from our current and past collections to show how colour, fabric, and silhouette can work together over time.

An intentional wardrobe isn’t built all at once. It’s refined slowly and thoughtfully.

Some pieces are currently on sale through Sunday. There’s no pressure to purchase. This is about clarity first.

If you’d ever like help talking through fit, fabric, or choosing between styles, just reply to us. We genuinely love helping with that.

With care,
Lexi
